The Starlight Express Room at Westmead has had the privilege of many great vocally gifted champions grace our stage… High 5 , The Wiggles and even Scooby Doo – although he didn’t do much singing, apparently ‘cat got his tongue’.
So, with the beginning of the month and a NEW theme: Kings, Queens & Fairytales we thought what better way to combine our love for music and everything regal than by crowing Westmead’s very own Karaoke King and Queen!!!
For Captains Powers and Twinkle Toes they certainly had their competition cut out for them with lots of kids all vying for to be crowned King and Queen. And so, in the spirit of fairness and not wanting to lose out completely, the Captains introduced a number of other Award categories including:
- The ‘Lady-Gaga’ Award: For style and grace
- The ‘It takes Two’ Award: Best duet
- The ‘Call me on the Phone, Call me Anytime Award’: Awarded to a caller for the best Karaoke song sung over the phone on Starlight TV.
- And finally…
- The ‘Moves Like Jagger’ Award: pretty self explanatory, if not Que in Maroon 5
The crescendo of excitement in the Starlight Express Room exploded onto the stage with Captain Powers ‘freestyle rap’, Riley ‘Lion-Kinging’, Jami styling it up with a ‘Jar of Hearts’, Rachel and Miracle belting ‘Mariah Carey’ over the phone and not to be out done, Stephanie Bieber ringing up to put Justin Bieber to shame with her rendition of ‘Boyfriend’.
Like any good televised singing competition, it all came down “To your votes Australia” in our case from the Starlight Express Room and from the Wards. In what was a deserved victory Jami was crowned our very own Karaoke Queen. However in a surprise twist, after tallying all the votes (legitimate-except for Jake’s twin brother Jake), the 2012 Karaoke King of the Starlight Express Room went to drum roll, please (drum-drum-drum)… ME! I mean Captain Powers known as the Artist formerly and now known as King Captain Powers of Karaoke or KCPK!
This proves once and for all…”fairytales do come true” (tear-tears of happiness).
